Essential Oils for a Diffuser: 10 Blends With Exact Drop Counts

By HandcraftReview Editorial · March 2026 · 6 min read
Handcraft Blends Lavender and Eucalyptus Essential Oil Set

Getting the most out of your essential oil diffuser means finding the right combinations. These are ten classic combinations, all made with Handcraft Blends oils and chosen to be simple.

All recipes below are for a standard 300ml ultrasonic diffuser. Scale proportionally for larger or smaller tanks. Want the luxury-hotel effect? See our hotel-style blend recipes. And if pets share your home, check the pet-safe diffusing rules first. If you use a waterless nebulizing diffuser such as the Organic Aromas Raindrop 3.0, treat the drop counts as ratios and skip the water. (Affiliate link.)

The best essential oils for a diffuser

Six oils cover almost every blend on this page. Start with two or three and add others once you know what you like. Drop counts are for a small ultrasonic diffuser; see how to use a diffuser for timing and cleaning.

Diffuser tips for better results

Clean your diffuser weekly. Oil residue builds up and mixes with new blends, muddying the scent. Wipe the water tank with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Room size matters. For a bedroom (200 sq ft), 4-6 drops is plenty. For a large living room, use 8-12 drops and run on intermittent mode.

Intermittent mode extends life. Running your diffuser on a 30-seconds-on / 30-seconds-off cycle makes your oil last 2x longer without reducing scent perception much.

Our starter recommendation

If you are new to diffusing, start with the Handcraft Blends Lavender and Eucalyptus Set. It covers 7 of the 10 blends above and gives you a large 4oz bottle of each.
