To make the majority of these recipes, you need just 5 products: Lavender, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, and Fractionated Coconut Oil. Handcraft Blends offers all five at excellent value. Their starter sets are the most cost-effective way to begin.
Get Lavender + Eucalyptus Set → Browse Full Collection →For face: jojoba oil (non-comedogenic, closest to skin sebum). For body: fractionated coconut oil (light, fast-absorbing, odorless). For hair scalp treatments: castor oil diluted in fractionated coconut. For massage: sweet almond oil (medium weight, slightly moisturizing). For roller bottles: fractionated coconut is the most practical — it never solidifies and has a long shelf life.
Fill a 10ml glass roller bottle with your chosen carrier oil (fractionated coconut is easiest). Add 6 drops of essential oil (or blend) for a 3% dilution — appropriate for most pulse-point applications. Secure the roller ball and cap, shake gently, and label with the blend name and date. Roller bottles last 6–12 months stored in a cool, dark place.
Yes, when made with correct dilutions and appropriate oils. The most common mistakes are using too much essential oil (exceeding safe concentration), using photosensitizing citrus oils before sun exposure, and using inappropriate oils for the application (e.g. oregano or cinnamon on skin). Always research each individual oil before using it in a blend, and patch test any new recipe before widespread use.
The shelf life depends on the carrier oil used. Fractionated coconut oil has the longest shelf life (2–4 years), making it best for pre-made blends. Sweet almond and jojoba last 1–2 years. Carrier oils with high linoleic acid content (rosehip, hemp) oxidize quickly and should be used within 6 months. Always label your blends with the creation date and store in amber glass bottles away from heat and light.
